Sometimes a puppy will experience a drop in blood sugar, called hypoglycemia, during the first few weeks after receiving him.  This can happen to small toy breed puppies if they have been playing too long or have not eaten enough.  They will become lethargic, glassy eyed, wobbly and/or difficult to wake up.  If not treated immediately they can have a seizure and possibly lead to death.  If you find your puppy with these symptoms, immediately administer 1cc or 1" of NutriCal to the back of their mouth.  Softly rub your puppy's body to stimulate blood flow. You should see an improvement within 10 minutes. IF NO IMPROVEMENT AFTER 10 MINUTES, TAKE HIM IMMEDIATELY TO A VET.
Tip: Decrease your playtime and start giving him whole milk several times a day for another week or so. You can purchase a 3cc syringe at your local pharmacy (without the needle) and NutriCal at a pet store such as PetCo and PetsMart or your vet's office.  If you don't have a syringe, open their mouth and squeeze in about 1" of NutriCal paste.  Hold the puppy's mouth closed for 15 seconds or until it melts.  They don't have to swallow it, it goes directly into the blood stream from the mouth.

HOW TO LOAD YOUR SYRINGE WITH NUTRICAL - MAKE SURE THERE IS NO NEEDLE ON THE SYRINGE

1) Remove the plunger from the 3cc syringe

2) Load the syringe holding it upright and squeeze the paste into the large opening until the syringe is about half full.

3) Hold the tube and syringe together and move it horizontally before removing the tube.  Otherwise, the paste will quickly ooze out.

4) Remove the tube and place the plunger in the syringe

5) Hold the syringe upright again and push the paste to the top

6) Firmly secure the puppy's head with one hand as below.   Force their mouth open with your index finger.  Place the syringe tip to the back of the puppy's tongue and push the paste into their mouth.  Remove the syringe and hold the puppy's mouth closed for a few seconds.

When the syringe is empty, clean it with hot running water.
